Social Secretary
Darpan Rekhi
“Ain’t no party like a Darpan party Cus a Darpan party don’t stop” ~ Mother Teresa 1964
As my favourite quote of all time states Darpans like me know how to party and electing me as your social sec ensures a year long party with socials you will telling your kids about 👶🏾
But all jokes aside, I think I am perfect for this role as I am a very integrated member of Barts cricket who loves the club and enjoys making memories with everyone.
I have been a drinker and non-drinker during my time and Barts so I know what can appeal to both members and how to keep everyone engaged. So hopefully I can encourage more non drinkers to attend socials which will only help grow our club as a whole. Furthermore as I’m going into 3rd year I have a lot of free time that I can dedicate to make our socials better than ever!
So remember to

Being old as fuck, I’ve had my fair share of sports nights, arguably more than anyone here below fourth year. Additionally, I’ve had my fair share of committee roles: Volunteering officer, Welfare officer, Secretary, Vice-captain, and even Vice president, however, I feel that the role that all these have been preparing me for, is social sec for BL Cricket.
In my previous roles, I’ve raised thousands of pounds for charity, organised inter-university cricket festivals, and even had the difficult job of helping club members through the loss of fellow teammates. A role on committee is not something I take lightly and not a responsibility I shrug off. Every executive role I’ve had I have left in a better shape than when I started, and I hope to build on the good work of Sid and Darpan to make sure their effort throughout this year is not lost going into 2020+1/2022.
In terms of what I can bring to the role, I hope to create more crossover between socials and playing members, introducing more non-drinking socials in the form of events and Wednesdays out during the off season for those not training. I hope to push for greater inclusion of non-playing members in post-match festivities, and to bring in an Barts-wide cricket 6-a-side tournament so we can make rowing look bad.
Running socials is a key factor in member retention and player availability. The more we are able to keep players throughout the year by ensuring opportunities for them to feel part of a club the better team spirit, and team performance. I want BL Cricket to be accessible to everyone. Saying ‘this is how it’s always been done’ is not how I have ever done things, nor will it ever be. Vote for me for social sec.
